Coconino National Forest
Coconino National Forest encompasses a few of my favorites spots in Arizona, including Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona. Hiking trails, overlooks, stunning views and camping spots seem nearly endless.
Top Five Hikes + Places to Explore
Aspen Loop No. 73 - an amazing 2.5 mile hike delivering seasonal wildflowers, grasses and, of course, aspens. The volcanic field is to the west and the Grand Canyon to the north. So much goodness!
Barbershop Trail - a 4.5 mile trail in open woodlands and shallow canyons.
Oak Creek Canyon - love this drive between Sedona and Flagstaff, along AZ-89A. Stunning, any time of year!
Rim Road - located in the Mongollon Rim District, this scenic drive has impressive drop offs and beautiful overlooks.
West Fork Oak Creek Trail - easily one of my favorite trails in the national forest. Red rock cliffs tower above, a creek runs through the canyon and endless foliage (with great color during fall). The first three miles are marked with the full trail going 14 miles between canyons. The latter requires wading through water and possible swimming, depending on the time of year!
