Homochitto National Forest was my first stop on a long travel day, taking me from southeast Mississippi to southern Texas. I arrived at dawn and enjoyed watching the fog lift from the lake, while sipping a cup of coconut chai tea.

Favorite Hikes + Places to Explore

  • Clear Springs Recreation Area - Clear Spring Lake has a sandy beach along with hiking and mountain bike trails.

  • Mill Branch Trail - a 4.7 mile trail open to hikers and mountain bikes.

  • Okhissa Lake Recreation Area - a perfect spot for enjoying nature, boating, fishing, and having a picnic.

  • Pipes Lake - a bit secluded with a nature trail.

  • Richardson Creek Trail - a 6.9 mile trail for hikers and mountain bikes, through the rolling hills of the forest.
