Travel | Sam Houston National Forest

Sam Houston National Forest was my final Texas national forest stop. I managed to see all four of the national forests in this great state during one road trip.

Favorite Hikes + Places to Explore

  • Big Creek Scenic Area - contains four loops of the Lone Star Hiking Trail.

  • Double Lake Recreation Area - located on the east side of the national forest, with lake, whispering pine and hardwood goodness to enjoy.

  • Little Lake Creek Wilderness - about five miles north of Montgomery, with three major creeks channeling through the area.

  • Lone Star Hiking Trail - a 128 mile trail with three distinct sections: Lake Conroe, Central Area and Winters Bayou/Tarkington Creek Area.
