Tombigbee National Forest was my first official stop in Mississippi while crossing the country. While visiting, I found myself more drawn to water than forests.

Favorite Hikes + Places to Explore

  • Choctaw Lake Recreation Area - located in the Ackerman unit, with four trail systems available by the lake. The terrain is hilly and relatively remote.

  • Davis Lake Recreation Area - covering over 200 acres, this is a great area for swimming, fishing, boating, camping and hiking.

  • Owl Creek Mounds - a historic site with Indian mounds. The five mounds were built between 1100 and 1200 A.D.
