Farewell, 2020.
I know it’s the final day of the year, only because the calendar says so. What a gift to still be here, in good health.
My family and dearest friends have been truly amazing as this year unfolded. Checking in and sharing the busyness from their homes through a screen. Chatting from a distance on their porch, as I strolled by on an afternoon walk. Calling to talk about nothing, simply to hear each other’s voice. Hitting play on the same movie at the same time, so we could watch together, albeit from afar. Mailing crafts and drawings from my sweet babes. And so much more.
I will remember 2020 as the year I spent alone, thousands of miles from my family with a heavy heart. Though all three will still exist at the stroke of midnight, I treasure the hope of entering a year that will allow me to see their faces in person, immediately followed by the warmth and love of their embrace.
The smallest gesture of kindness may spark profound joy, especially on the toughest days. May we all find and experience an abundance of both in the new year ahead.
