Travel | Pittsburg, New Hampshire

As you may know, I have spent the better part of ten years on moose stakeouts, trying to spot this elusive animal in the wild. All attempts were a scenic fail, until visiting Pittsburg, New Hampshire over the summer.

With a road called Moose Alley (Route 3), Pittsburg was a natural addition to my find a moose location list. My youngest sister and I rented a cabin at the Tall Timber Lodge, on beautiful Back Lake.

Moments after checking in, we hopped back in the Jetta and went north on Route 3. No dice on spotting a moose during our first pass. We turned around at the border patrol station for Canada, made a few pit stops at lakes and drove south, back toward the cabin.

And then it happened. A MOOSE was standing on the side of the road. We were an excited, giggling pair of kids. A short mile down the road and we saw two more moose.

AMAZING.

I chose to enjoy the moment of my first moose sighting and kept my camera tucked away. We visited local lakes, ponds and pull outs throughout the remainder of our stay. There were no more moose sightings.

This was also the final road trip for the Jetta. An appropriate send off, in my opinion.
