My first visit to the Flight 93 crash site was in 2005, long before the current memorial was built. Last year I made my way to the new memorial for the first time and visited again on the first day of my cross country road trip this year.

Visiting this memorial is a somber experience. It's quiet. Almost overwhelmingly quiet. And always windy. You can hear the leaves, grass, branches and flags moving, constantly.

The completed additions include the entrance, roads and memorial plaza. A visitor center, flight path walkway, learning center and additional parking area are currently under construction with an anticipated completion date in late 2015.

Future additions to the memorial will include The Tower of Voices, a 93 foot tower containing wind chimes, as well as The 40 Memorial Groves Walkway. The walkway will be lined with trees, connecting the memorial plaza and visitor center.

Visiting the Flight 93 National Memorial is best suited for paying respect and reflecting on the events that transpired on 9/11. The memorial has been designed beautifully and immediately pulls at the heartstrings.
