Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park
Last month I stopped at Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park, while on my way to North Carolina. I arrived just before 8:00 am and enjoyed a quiet stroll along the Fredericksburg Battlefield.
Hiking Areas
Chancellorsville Battlefield - there are three distinct trails in this battlefield area. Check out the park map for available hiking options.
East Wilderness Trails - there are two trails in this area. The Federal Line Trail is 3.5 miles (one way) and the second, Window Tapp Trail, is .6 miles round-trip.
North Lee Drive Trail - this 2.7 mile trail (one way) takes you through the Fredericksburg Battlefield. There are two short side trails, the Lee Hill Trail and Picket Circle.
South Lee Drive Trail - also through the Fredericksburg Battlefield, this 2.3 mile trail (one way) has one side trail available, Bernard's Cabin Trail.
Spotsylvania Courthouse Battlefield - this area of the park has numerous ruins and exhibits to explore.
West Wilderness Battlefield Trail - this 1.9 mile, round-trip, trail takes you through the Gordon Flank Attack area.
I plan to head back for another visit, since I spent my time in the Fredericksburg Battlefield area. This park has multiple visitor centers and areas to explore. If you want to take on a few hikes, I recommend spending more than one day in the park.
